Research at Glenpark

Glenpark takes an active role in medical research and we are one of the practices in Gateshead to be part of the Northern and Yorkshire Primary Care Research Network. The practice receives funding to assist with some studies based in general practice and Dr Haines is the lead doctor in this area. Most of the research is not funded by drug producing companies, and all studies have been approved by a national centre. Our research projects may involve asking patient opinions on treatments or permission to look at your medical records to see how you have been affected by illness or treatments. Taking part in any research project is entirely voluntary. Because of our interest in research we may be asked to provide patients for larger externally based projects. You may be asked to fill in a questionnaire or take part in a study that the practice has agreed to participate in - only do so if you want to!

We hope that taking part in research will help us to continue to improve standards of care for our own patients and others. Studies suggest that patients who receive care in research-active institutions have better health outcomes than patients who are treated in a non-research environment.
